About

In my office, you’ll see one of my favourite quotes:

“Don’t believe everything you think.”

Our thinking mind tends to dominate our life and is often the culprit when we feel we’ve lost our way. Cognitively, you may think you know what you need to do, but what are your emotions saying? The disconnect happens when you don’t listen to them.

That’s why I like to focus on the emotional self. To rediscover your true self, you need to connect to your deeper wisdom — you’ll find that in your emotions.

I speak from experience. As a child, I was labelled “too sensitive.”

I am a sensitive person, and I’ve learned to embrace my emotions and use this trait for the strength it is. I understand what it’s like to feel overwhelmed by your emotions, and the instinct to work against anything that feels negative.

But, to heal and move forward, you need to hold all your emotions.

The good news is that you already have everything you need to do that. My role is to help you find the words that express your emotional life and the unvoiced questions that will lead you to your answers.

For me, therapy is a collaborative process. I provide support and guidance, but you’re in the driver’s seat.

As your story unfolds, we’ll move towards an understanding of how cultural and societal influences have impacted you and how these threads are all connected. Along the way, the path may have a few twists and turns. I help you navigate them all.

Clinical focus and approach

Based in Calgary, I’m a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and have been practicing for 18 years.

My clinical experience is diverse and includes counselling individuals, couples and families in a variety of contexts and environments.

I specialize in working with people who struggle with emotion. This includes individuals who feel numb or overly emotional, are afraid to express emotion or feel emotionally out of control.

I tailor my approach to your needs, but four main theories inform my practice:

  • Narrative
  • Emotion-Focused
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Internal Family Systems

Depending on your situation, I may lean into one technique more than another, but I usually apply each to some degree or another. If you’re interested, here’s a bit more about these therapy techniques.
